چکیده

DESCRIPTION A 65-year-old man sustained a closed minimally displaced fracture of the right proximal humerus following a lowvelocity road traffic accident. The alignment of the humeral head was satisfactory and the patient was treated conservatively with a polysling shoulder immobiliser (TalarMade, Universal Multi Arm Sling). He was reviewed in fracture clinic 2 weeks postinjury where the position and alignment of the fracture fragments remained satisfactory on check radiographs. Subsequent review at 4 weeks revealed a 10×2 cm grade 3 pressure sore and surrounding erythema caused by the polysling strap (figure 1). The finding was incidental and he was completely asymptomatic to the effect of the strap on his neck. Following this, the strap was adjusted and additional padding was used to relieve pressure. The wound was managed by a district

New Treatment Strategy for a Delayed Skin Necrosis Related to a Calcaneal Fracture

In calcaneal avulsion fractures, skin necrosis as a result of pressure from the underlying fragment is a fairly common and serious complication. In spite of proper treatment, skin healing complication may occur. We report a calcaneal fracture case complicated by skin necrosis and managed with a novel treatment strategy including application of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Vacuum Assisted Clos...

Chin Necrosis as a Consequence of Prone Positioning in the Intensive Care Unit

Pressure necrosis of the skin is a rarely reported avoidable complication of prone positioning that can be minimised by active collaboration between care teams. We report a case of pressure necrosis of the chin after prone ventilation in the intensive care setting. Such injuries pose a risk of infection, possible need for surgical intervention, and increased costs to the health care system. Pre...

A Complication of Management of Closed Incision with Negative-Pressure Wound Therapy.

Negative-pressure wound therapy is routinely utilized in plastic surgery for the treatment of open wounds. However, a newer system, known as closed-incision management (CIM), may minimize the likelihood of open wounds. CIM is designed for use after primary surgical skin closure. Many studies of the effects of CIM in various surgical disciplines have been published. The main features of CIM are ...

TITLE: Dressing Materials for the Treatment of Pressure Ulcers in Patients in Long- Term Care Facilities: A Review of the Comparative Clinical Effectiveness and Guidelines

Pressure ulcers are regions of localized damage to the skin and underlying tissues that usually develop over bony prominences. They occur as a result of uninterrupted pressure exerted on the skin, soft tissues, muscle, and bone leading to the development of localized ischemia, followed by a cascade of processes resulting in necrosis. Areas of the body commonly predisposed to pressure ulcers inc...
